Abstract:

Purpose: Insufficient valuation of pain in premature babies is a permanent clinical problem. The aim of this study is to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Prematural Baby Pain Profile (PIPP) that clinics and researchers can use to evaluate pain in premature babies. Method and method: The study was conducted with a total of 50 premature newborns. In this study, pregnancy ages between 26-36 weeks, newborns without birth anomalies and without respiratory support, without surgery, without sepsis or sepsis, without sedative or analgesic drugs were included in the study. The Prematural Baby Pain Profile (PIPP) was used to evaluate the behavioral and physiological responses of the baby in the video camera, monitor and blood collection process to evaluate the pain. The data obtained on the computer was evaluated using the SPSS for Windows 11.5 program. Results: The PIPP score of premature babies in the research group is pre- and post-invasive initiative ranges 4.0, 15.0 and 7.0. The consistency between the PIPP objects was 0.68-0.78 and the homogenity was 0.48-0.95. The reliability was found between 0.85-0.99. Result: This study shows that PIPP’s structural validity and reliability between evaluators and PIPP scores are high in the clinical application to evaluate preterm and term initiative pain in newborns. The simultaneous validity work must be taken into account.
