Mathematical formalism has dominated the modern economy especially since the early 1970s. Mathematical economics, econometrics and other quantitative methods have gained popularity in the curriculum programs in the economics departments of universities around the world. The mathematization of economics has been criticized by economists such as Alfred Marshall, John Maynard Keynes, as well as the founding names of economics and many other economists who have won the Nobel Prize in Economics. The aim of this study is to summarize the criticism of mathematical formalism and mathematical economics in the eyes of the well-known great economists.
