Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the level of social skills of high school students who do sports and do not. The study included a total of 180 high school students, including 60 women and 120 men, with an average age of 16.84 (Ss±0.98) and a total of 180 high school students. As a data collection tool, the Social Skills Inventory was used, which was developed by Riggio (1986) and made language validity and reliability by Upper (1998) . In the scale consisting of 90 items and 6 subdimensions, the results of the factor analysis made by Yüksel (2004) were taken into account while determining the subdimensional questions. The Cronbach’s Alpha test statistics of the scale are calculated at 0.93. In the two comparisons, the SPSS program T-test and the group number were more than two comparisons, while the one-way variance analysis used the One-way Anova test. To determine the difference between the group average, the Tukey test was used. The T-Test resulted from the average score of the overall social skills and the average score of the lower dimensions found a significant difference between the sexes in the emotional sensitivity size. There was no significant difference in social skills levels depending on the number of brothers and sisters of the students involved in the study. For all other dimensions except social sensitivity, the differences between the average levels of mother’s educational status are statistically important. When the data collected were analyzed, it was found that male high school students who studied in the province of Isparta had a higher level of social skills, while the mother's higher educational status had a positive impact on the social skills of students.
