Özet:

Aim: Multiple primary malignant tumors are rarely seen. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively evaluate features of patients with synchronous or metachronous cancer in our center Materials and methods: The patients with secondary primary tumors records were analyzed retrospectively in our department. We also investigated clinicopathological features among 73 cases of multiple synchronous and metachronous primary tumors. Results:Of patients, 41 (56%) were male and 32 (44%) were female. While breast carcinoma, laryngeal carcinoma and colorectal carcinoma were the fi rst three diagnosed primary cancers, non-small cell lung carcinoma, mesothelioma, breast ca and gastrointestinal tract carcinoma were the most diagnosed secondary cancers. Fourteen patients whose both primary and secondary tumors were breast ca. Detailed evaluation of the metachronous group (n=12) revealed that the most frequent organ associations were breast-to-breast. Eighteen patients (25%) synchronous, 55 patients (75%) metachronous tumors were detected. Median time to metacronous tumor development was found as 56 months (ranges 7-250). Median follow-up time was 58 months (ranges 1-297). Fifty fi ve percent of the patients with the synchronous primary tumors and 56% of the patients with metachronous primary tumors were dead. Conclusion: We found that the risk of multiple primary breast carcinoma was signifi cantly elevated in female breast carcinoma patients. Like breast cancer, for some cancers, multiple primary cancers occur at the same cancer site or organ system as the initial primary. This may be due to exposure, risk factors, or genetic predisposition.
