It is the situation in which the search for attachment, communication and relationship reaches the level of emotional meaning. The formation of a secure attachment between the baby and his father makes the baby feel safe, facilitates the adaptation to the environment and positively affects the development of the baby. Parent-infant attachment is a process that begins during pregnancy, continues in the birth and postpartum period, and progresses gradually. While the degree of behaviors that represent the relationship and interaction of parents with their unborn children during pregnancy differs, especially due to the fact that pregnancy takes place physiologically in the female body, babies exhibit attachment behaviors such as smiling, crying, sucking to establish a bond with the caregiver, and parent-infant attachment increases with birth. Father-infant attachment not only initiates the infant's social development, but also affects the father's adoption of the paternal role. Pregnancy process, duration of labor, delivery and postpartum period until the baby is 12 months old are the processes that affect father-infant attachment. The father-to-be monitors the pregnancy process with his wife and participates in the care of his pregnant wife, begins to meet the needs of the baby after birth, and gains the feeling of love. Increasing father's involvement in infant care alleviates the mother's burden of care and work, gives the mother the opportunity to participate in activities, and supports the mother's psychological well-being in the postpartum period. The father's age, education level, mother's education level, income level and working status are the factors that affect the active role of the father in baby care. It is stated that father-infant attachment is positively related to the age of marriage and the age of the baby, and negatively related to the age of the father and the duration of marriage. Nursing care given during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period should support spouses to have experience in this process, strengthen family relations and parent-infant bonding. In order to improve father-baby attachment, nurses include the father in the care processes during pregnancy, birth and postpartum period, support the pregnant and father-to-be to talk to their babies in the prenatal period, encourage the father to express their feelings in all processes, evaluate father-infant attachment with various scales in the prenatal and postnatal periods. recommended.
