Abstract:

This work consists of two sections. The first part of the study provides information about the dictionary study, which is a sub-division of dictionary science. In the second part of the study, the "Oceanus Encyclopedic Dictionary" was evaluated in the light of the dictionary data. The "Oceanus Encyclopedic Dictionary", which was one of the important kilometres in the dictionary works that began with "Dîvânu Lugâti't-Türk" and was published in 1971, was attempted to reveal the place in our dictionary history. The work, which is the subject of the research, is based on the principles of the dictionary review discussed in different researches and has been studied in the general characteristics, importance, type, dictionary characteristics, source selection, target audience, use labels, material heads, material contents, both form and content under different titles. The study found that the "Oceanus Encyclopedic Dictionary" contained formal errors caused by printing such as writing and numeration errors, and on the other hand it was concluded that the work was prepared in accordance with the dictionary principles.
