Abstract:

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the need for mechanical intestinal cleaning (MBT) application before the operation of coronary arterial bacterial grefting (CABG) and the effect on postoperative variables. Instrument and Method: Between January 2015 and May 2021, 157 patients under the elective isolation CABG operation were recurrently examined. Patients were divided into two groups, MBT (Group I) and MBT (Group II), in terms of demographic data, laboratory parameters and clinical characteristics (operative variables and early postoperative variables). Results: 111 of the cases were in Group I and 46 in Group II. In Group I, the male sex ratio was significantly higher than in Group II (p<0.001). Pre-operative hepatic function tests found statistically significant differences between the two groups (p<0.05). Parameters identified significant differences between the groups, (Sex, Hyperlipidemia, Smoking, AST, ALT) were assessed by logistical regression in terms of the impact on GIS complications (p>0.05) . There was no difference between the groups in terms of clinical and early postoperative variables (in intensive care and hospitalization, extubation time, gastrointestinal system complications). This study is the first study that shows that pre-operative MBT in elective KABG surgery has no effect on gastrointestinal system complications. These findings from our study on the preoperative MBT procedure show that prospective clinical trials are needed.
