Giriş: Toplumun hemşirelik mesleğine cinsiyetçi yaklaşımının o toplumda yetişen öğrencilerin görüşlerini ve öğrencilerin hemşirelik mesleğine uygunluklarını etkileyebileceği düşünülmektedir. Amaç: Araştırmada hemşirelik bölümü öğrencilerinin toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine yönelik tutumlarının meslek seçimi üzerine etkisini belirlemek amaçlandı. Yöntem: Kesitsel ve ilişki arayıcı tipte bir araştırmadır. Evreni hemşirelik bölümü öğrencileri oluşturdu. Araştırma örneklemini 226 öğrenci oluşturdu. Veriler Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Toplumsal Cinsiyet Rolleri Tutum Ölçeği, Hemşirelikte Meslek Seçimi Ölçeğiyle toplandı. Verilerin analizinde tek yönlü varyans, korelasyon ve regresyon analizleri kullanıldı. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %96’sı 18-25 yaş aralığında, %81,9’u çekirdek aile yapısına sahipti. Bu öğrencilerin sırasıyla 37,30 ± 3,83 ve 37,50 ± 3,59 ortalamaları ile en yüksek Eşitlikçi Cinsiyet Rolü alt boyutu ortalamasına sahip olduğu belirlendi. Mesleki Uygunluk alt boyutunda en yüksek ortalamalar 6,82 ± 1,75 ile 18-25 yaş grubunda olan 7,11 ± 1,61 ile İç Anadolu Bölgesinde yaşayan öğrenciler aldı. Eşitlikçi cinsiyet rolü ile mesleki uygunluk alt boyutları arasında, Geleneksel Cinsiyet Rolü ile Yaşamsal Nedenler alt boyutları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki belirlendi (p = 0,05). Aile türü değişkeninin ve mesleği isteyerek seçmenin, Hemşirelikte Meslek Seçimi Ölçeği üzerine etkisi olduğu bulundu (p = 0,05). Sonuç: Aile türü değişkeninin ve mesleği isteyerek seçmenin mesleki uygunluk üzerine etkisi olduğu görüldü. Eşitlikçi Cinsiyet Rolü alt boyutu ile Mesleki Uygunluk, Geleneksel Cinsiyet Rolü ile Yaşamsal Nedenler alt boyutu arasında pozitif bir ilişki olduğu belirlendi. Bu doğrultuda toplumsal cinsiyet rollerinin hemşirelik mesleğine uygunluk üzerine etkisi olabileceği söylenebilir
Introduction: The society's sexist approach to the nursing profession may affect the views of students raised in that society and the suitability for the nursing profession. Aim: The study aimed to determine the effect of nursing students' attitudes towards gender roles on their choice of profession. Method: It is a cross-sectional and correlational study. The population was made up of nursing students. The sample constituted 226 students. Data were collected using Personal Information Form, Gender Roles Attitude Scale, and Nursing Career Choice Scale. Analyses were done using One-way variance, correlation, and regression analyses. Results: The students mostly (96%) were between the ages of 18-25 and 81.9% had a nuclear family structure. These students had the highest Egalitarian Gender Role sub-dimension mean of 37.30 ± 3.83 and 37.50 ± 3.59, respectively. In the sub-dimension of Vocational Suitability, the highest averages were found in the 18-25 age group with 6.82 ± 1.75 and in students living in Central Anatolia Region with 7.11 ± 1.61. There was a significant relationship between Egalitarian Gender Role and Vocational Suitability sub-dimensions, and between Traditional Gender Role and Vital Reasons sub-dimensions (p = 0.05). Family type and choosing the profession willingly influenced the Scale of Vocational Choice in Nursing (p = 0.05). Conclusion: Family type and voluntary choice of profession influenced occupational suitability. There was a positive relationship between the Egalitarian Gender Role and Occupational Congruence, and between the Traditional Gender Role and Survival Reasons sub-dimensions. Gender roles may affect on suitability for the nursing profession.
