Abstract In Cuba, where the fertility and mortality levels at the territorial level are quite uniform and their trends are homogeneous and predictable, internal migration has become the demographic variable that can explain the territorial inequalities in the growth and spatial distribution of the population. It is for all of the above that studies on this variable have been gaining importance in recent decades, in order to implement appropriate actions and measures in terms of internal migration policies in the most convenient directions for the development process on a territorial scale. But the measures that can be implemented in terms of policies to influence the achievement of migratory flows that are more convenient for social and economic development, must necessarily be expressed in a differentiated way regarding the territories and people that show a higher propensity to migrate, in order to Hence the importance of knowing the historical evolution of the main trends of internal migration in the country, the territorial migratory behavior of the population and the characteristics that distinguish migrants.
