Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of problem solving skills and mathematics attitudes on mathematics achievement of secondary school students. Calculation of the direct and indirect effects of problem solving skills and mathematics attitude on mathematics achievement is another subject of research. The study was designed with a quantitative method, survey method. Research, located on Turkey's Mediterranean Coast from secondary schools in the province chosen by simple random sampling 2019-2020 spring semester studying 482 (252 girls and 230 boys) was carried out by secondary school students. “Personal Information Form”, “Perception Scale for Problem Solving Skills” and “Mathematics Attitude Scale” were applied to secondary school students as data collection tools. Correlation and path analysis methods were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the data analysis, a significant positive effect was determined between the problem solving skills and mathematics attitudes of the secondary school students and the mathematics achievement averages. In addition, it was determined that problem solving skill directly and indirectly affected math attitude and mathematics achievement. Within the framework of the findings obtained in the study, suggestions were made to the researchers who will work in this field in the future.
