AbstractSocieties are experiencing a continuous search for development and change processes in the field of health care. Actually, the roots of this search are the past experiences of society, and interactions of society with its environment. In this context, Turkish health system had taken important steps in terms of the institutionalization and being systematized first in the period of Anatolian Seljuk. However, this process had been stalled in the Ottoman Empire until the 19th century, and health services had been focused on the palace and army. Then, in accordance with developments in the West, the efforts of the rapid institutionalization and dissemination of health services have gradually gained more importance and undergone systematic changes until today. This dynamic process is still continuing. In this review study, the summary of historical development process of Turkish health system was investigated up to present from Anatolian Seljuk. The changes in the individual and institutional providers of health services providers, transition process to the socialization of the health care, the changes in the health care coverage were expressed in terms of the related periods’ actors. Today, the activities of management of health services are still ongoing with nearly 700 thousand health care workers, the public and private health care institutions which have been spread to the entire country.
