The segment alternated consists of alternating exercises for upper body and down body. The present studyaims to analyzethe effect of the segment alternated sets order compared to traditional sets on the performance of maximum repetitions in bench press (BP) and inclined leg press (LP). The study included seventeen healthy men trained (24.94 ± 3.94 years; 178.29 ± 7.11 cm, 83.05 ± 17.18 kg). All volunteer underwent to six visits, being the first for application of the maximum load test for ten repetition maximum (10 RM), the second for the re-test of 10 RM, and the other for the performance of each experimental session. In the first session was performed only the BP exercise and, in the second the LP, both in the traditional method with passive interval of three minutes. In subsequent visit the BP alternated with the LP and, the latter, LP alternated with the BP. Both using segment alternated sets without rest interval. It was observed that both exercises (BP and LP) had significant reductions in performance of maximum repetitions in all experimental protocols (BP F = 170.7; P = 0.0001; LP F = 56.717; P = 0.0001), as well as significant reductions on the number of maximum repetition between sets (BP F = 32.866; P = 0.0001 ; LP F = 20.401; P = 0.0001) in each protocols. In conclusion, the segment alternated sets method worsened performance of maximum repetitions in both exercises.
