Yabancı dil öğretiminde öğrenenlerin etkili bir anlama ve anlatma becerisine sahip olmasında kelimelerin önemli bir rolü vardır. Yabancı dilde kelime öğretimi, dilde en sık kullanılan kelimelerden başlayarak gerçekleştirilmektedir. Öğretim materyallerinin ve yardımcı kaynakların sık kullanılan kelimelerle hazırlanmış olması ve öğrenenlerin bu kelimelerle karşılaşmaları kelime öğretimi sürecini olumlu olarak etkileyecektir. Alanyazında Türkçenin yabancı dil olarak öğretimi sürecinde yer alan kitaplarda sık kullanılan kelimelerin neler olduğunu tespit eden çalışmalar bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmalar incelendiğinde okuma kitaplarına ve çocuklar için hazırlanmış okuma kitaplarına yönelik çalışmalarının sayısının az olduğu fark edilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, çocuklar için hazırlanmış yabancı dil olarak Türkçe okuma kitaplarındaki söz varlığı unsurlarını tespit etmek amaçlanmıştır. Nitel durum çalışması ile gerçekleştirilen çalışmada “Suriyeli Çocukların Türk Eğitim Sistemine Entegrasyonun Desteklenmesi Projesi” (PIKTES) kapsamında hazırlanan “Salih Hikâye Seti”ndeki 10 kitap kelimeler, ikilemeler, deyimler ve atasözleri açısından incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri doküman analizi ile toplanmıştır. CİBAKAYA 2.3 programı ile kelimelerin sıklıkları incelenmiştir. Çalışma sonunda okuma kitaplarında en fazla isim ve fiillerden oluşan kelimelere yer verildiği ikilemelere ve deyimlere pek fazla yer verilmediği görülmüştür. Bununla birlikte incelenen hikâyelerde atasözlerine ise hiç yer verilmediği tespit edilmiştir.
Foreign language teaching starts with teaching the most frequently used words in the language. Learners encounter words in textbooks or reading books. The fact that the books are prepared with frequently used vocabulary elements will help learners to learn the language quickly and use it effectively. In the literature, there are studies that determine which vocabulary elements are included in the books included in the process of teaching Turkish as a foreign language. When the studies are examined, it is noticed that there are few studies on reading books and especially on reading books prepared for children. In this study, it is aimed to determine the vocabulary elements in Turkish reading books prepared for foreigners. In the study carried out with a qualitative case study, 10 books in the “Salih Story Set” prepared within the scope of the “Project for Supporting the Integration of Syrian Children into the Turkish Education System” (PICTES) were examined in terms of words, reduplications, idioms and proverbs. The data of the research were collected by document analysis. The frequency of the words was examined with the CIBAKAYA 2.3 program. At the end of the study, it was determined that the words consisting of nouns and verbs were mostly included in the reading books; It has been seen that reduplications and idioms are not given much space. However, it has been determined that proverbs are not included in the analyzed stories.
