Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the views of a group of English teachers on the objectives of the Ministry of National Education for Foreign Language Education included in the "Education Vision 2023". This document contains three main objectives for the teaching of foreign languages and seven sub objectives related to the main objectives under each objective. In terms of the objectives that offer the solution to many problems encountered in foreign language teaching, foreign language teachers’ opinions on these objectives are especially important in terms of the degree in which they are applied or not applied. Therefore, the study used the state study method in the framework of the qualification methodology and the study was carried out with 11 English teachers working in different stages in the Burdur province in the spring 2018-2019 academic year. The data was collected through semi-structured discussions, which consisted of questions about the main objectives and the sub-objectives the participants wanted to express their opinion, and subsequently submitted to content analysis. The study found that the majority of teachers have positive views on these goals because they believe that the targeted goals will bring a solution to the current foreign language teaching problems. A group of teachers who did not find these goals realistic said that the goals were long-term, economically expensive, contradictory with current practices and prepared without the teacher’s opinion. A lot of discussions and suggestions are presented in the final section.
