Abstract:

The bilateral relations established between Turkey and the United States of America (USA) in the post-World War II period were tried to inform the public by making news in the national press. Similarly, news covering the relations between two countries was also mentioned in the Ülke newspaper published in Sivas in the same period. In the news, the convergence of Turkey and USA and the aid given to Turkey in the face of the expansionist policies followed by the Soviet Russia in the post-war period were mentioned. USA followed a policy of neutrality on Turkish-Soviet relations until the Potsdam Conference negotiations held by the Allied Powers on July 17, 1945. In this conference, upon Soviet Russia's requests from Turkey regarding the Straits, USA gave up its policy depending on the neutrality to protect its own interests, and started to take a close interest in Turkey, especially since the beginning of 1946. In the news, it was claimed that the rapprochement started in Turkish-American relations after the World War II started with the use of Missouri, the largest battleship of the world and USA, in the transfer of the dead body of Mehmet Münir Ertegün, the former Ambassador of Turkey to Washington, to Istanbul. With this approach, America tried to give the message that it stood by Turkey against Soviet Russia's policies towards Turkey. The rapprochement in Turkish-American relations continued with the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, and Ülke newspaper closely followed the American aid made under the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan. A large amount of news about the process from the discussion and approval of the Bill presented by President of the Truman to the American Congress and the implementation of the aid in Turkey was published in the Ülke newspaper. In our study, information was given about the Turkish-American rapprochement and the reflection of the news on the American aid to Turkey in the newspaper.
