Abstract:

As a result of no voluntary returns in the last ten years since the beginning of the forced migration from Syria to Turkey, four million people from Syria have settled in our country. This demographic change in the host society in Turkey has brought a lot of issues to the agenda during the process. One of these issues is the possibilities and conditions for the Syrian population under the status of temporary protection in our country, parallel to the increase in their durability trends, to transition to Turkish Republic citizenship. The attractiveness of the rights and possibilities provided by being a citizen of the Turkish Republic of Syria appears to be increasing every day for those people who are forced to take their places to refuge in our country and establish a settlement. While the number of temporary guards who are warm to the idea of becoming a citizen of the Turkish Republic of Syria is increasing every day, the views of the local people on the subject are curious. From this point, in this study, local public talks were conducted in the border city of Gaziantep, which hosts the most intense Syrian citizen of Turkey, and the findings obtained from the research were thoroughly discussed. The study was designed in the quantitative research model and the questions that will serve to take the ideas for the acceptance of the citizenship of the Turkish Republic by the Syrian audience were placed in the survey form. In the framework of this study, discussions were conducted with 733 people with different levels of gender, age, civil status and education, and the questions in the survey form, in which questions on the issue of citizenship were prepared, were addressed to these people. According to the research, the local people in general can say they don’t look warmly at the acquisitions of Turkish citizenship and the rights that the citizenship will provide to the Syrian population in our country.
