Smoking or being exposed to smoke is the most important preventable cause of diseases or deaths. Mother's smoking during pregnancy leads to perinatal or postnatal problems. In most studies it is expressed that smoking or being exposed to smoke causes the fetus to have low birth weight, failure in intrauterine growth, and congenital abnormalities. It may also cause sudden infant death syndrome, insufŞ cient breastfeeding, and problems with respiratory system. As well, it may also lead to failure in the development of cognitive and behavioural functions of the baby in the future, leading a slower growth.
