In this study, the effects of initial pH, MSBP dosage, temperature, initial metal ion concentration and contact time on the removal of Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions from aqueous solutions by citric acid modified sugar beet pulp (MSBP) have been investigated through batch experiments. It was found that the experimental kinetic data fit the pseudo second order kinetic model and activation energies for Pb(II) and Cd(II) adsorption processes were found to be 20.68 and 38.61 kj mol-1, respectively. Initial adsorption rate increases but removal efficiency decrease with an increase in temperature. The adsorption equilibrium data for the Pb(II) and Cd(II) adsorption processes obeyed well for Langmuir isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacities were calculated to be 310 and 115 mg g-1 for 25ºC, respectively. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the Pb(II) and Cd(II) adsorption processes were exothermic (HºPb= 35.68 kj mol-1, HºCd = 21.19 kj mol-1) and spontaneous
