Abstract:

The use of electrical energy which is an indispensable element of the age of technology is increasing with each passing day. Especially with the increase in technological devices used at houses, the demand for electricity in the housing sector has increased more than the industry and transportation sectors. In this respect, the effects of household characteristics, construction of housing in which the households live, possession of electronic goods and spendings of household to different types of fuels on household electricity demand in Turkey will be investigated. Since electricity consumption was not observed in some households included in the data set, the Two-Part Model (2PM) is used to investigate the determinants of household electricity demand. According to the results of the study, household income, household size and the size of the dwelling have a positive effect on the electricity consumption of the household. In addition, the number of air conditioners in the household, ownership of refrigerators, dishwashers, and consumption of natural gas and liquefied hydrocarbons are factors that increase electricity consumption. According to the results of the Two-Part Model, the factors affecting the electricity consumption possibilities and the electricity consumption of individuals may differ. Some findings show that the increase in electricity consumption is inevitable when individuals are reluctant to spend electricity and use the electronic devices they possess.
