Abstract:

The various scales of decision-making in landscape planning require the measurement and visualization of the value of ecosystem services that do not include concrete and economic contribution. To a successful maintenance and management of cultural landscapes, it is necessary to understand the spatial distribution of abstract and cultural services, in other words, of cultural ecosystem services. The modeling of cultural ecosystem services using social media data can create an approach that can be integrated with existing planning and policy tools. In this study conducted in the Datça Peninsula, photographs with geographical labels downloaded from the Flickr social photo network through the application programming interface (API) were used and cultural ecosystem services were maped. The photographs studied within the scope of physical, experimental, intellectual and artistic/inspiring values; 57% are aesthetic, 20,1% are artistic/inspiring, 15,4% are cultural heritage and identity values, 6,9% are recreational values and 0,7% are spiritual and religious values. The geographical labels of the photographs were analyzed using the Core intensity forecast model. The results of the analysis show that the photographs that reflect cultural heritage and identity value in the Old Town of Knidos and its surroundings; the photographs that reflect recreational value, aesthetic value and artistic/inspiring values have the potential to concentrate in the Datça Peninsula settlement where the old Datça is located, and that this potential may have a spatial variation throughout the half. It is noted that spiritual and religious values can concentrate only at one point in the center of the semiconductor. This study aims to reach researchers working on the maping of ecosystem services and provides a method flow that can create a reference in the context of landscape management in the sustainability of cultural values.
