Abstract:

It was purposed in this research to reveal the trend in this field by making a bibliometric evaluation of the educational research articles published on zoos and aquariums in the Web of Science (WoS) database. In the research, the bibliometric method was used within the scope of quantitative methodology. Zoo and aquarium research data from the WoS database produced by Clarivate Analytics covers the years 1975-2020. Research data covers the years between 1975 and 2020. Bibliometric analysis techniques were used in the analysis of the data. It was observed that there were 14,298 records in the WoS database related to the research topic, and it was determined that 98 of them were articles published within the scope of Education/Education researches. As a result of the analyzes a significant increase was observed in the number of articles published on the research topic in 2014. However, there has been a cumulative increase in citations since 2010. It was concluded that 147 different institutions and 214 researchers contributed to the literature on zoos and aquariums. In addition, it has been determined that the publication language of the articles is mainly English. It has been observed that researchers from 28 different countries have published articles on zoos and aquariums, and the most active country is the USA. It was determined that 261 different keywords were used in the analyzed articles. It was determined that the most used keywords were zoos and environmental education. It has been observed that the cited publications are generally studies examining the experiences of individuals in out-of-school teaching environments. It is recommended to conduct large-scale research on different types of publications and databases related to the subject area.
