Abstract:

Orhan Okay is among the last representatives of Fuad Bridge, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar and Mehmet Kaplan in the new Turkish literature field. He is recognized by his work in the field of new Turkish literature and by the number of students he educated. OK, he is also the assistant of Mehmet Kaplan and the first doctoral student. Okay's knowledge, accumulation and experience has had an important impact on Mehmet Kaplan. Similarly, it should not be neglected that Okay, who is constantly asking, researching and thinking, has contributed to his teacher’s knowledge, accumulation and experience. His letters to Orhan Okay are clearly revealing this truth. Even in December, letters that last for thirty years are important to show the emotional bond between the two teachers. According to the letters, Kaplan sees Orhan Okay as a role model for the future Turkey he dreams. That is why he constantly gives him advice; he tries to keep his interest and excitement alive. Orhan Okay’s personal letters contain very important messages that will contribute to youth’s personal development. Letters received with a aesthetic style also carry a literary value. The main purpose of this study is to recognize Orhan Okay from the perspective of Mehmet Kaplan. The assessments of Mehmet Kaplan, recognized for his discipline and principles of work in the academic community, at this point are important.
