Abstract:

The 16th century possesses an idiosyncratic system in international relations always based on self-interest. Limits of this system are determined by regional and global alliance among the dominant powers of the period. The protection of the spice trade flowing through the Red Sea by Ottomans that replaced the Memluk state against Portuguese, also their struggles in the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean represent the Ottoman Empire's southern policy. On the other hand, its conflict in the west with Spain in the Mediterranean Sea and also with Hapsburg Empire on land reaching Vienna has required the redrawing of the political geography of the 16th century. Throughout this century, The Ottoman Empire found a wide front against it as a result of its policies to the detriment of mainly Portugal, Spain and the Hapsburg Empire. Safavid Iran also took place in this front with all the Catholic states except France. This study is an essay to demonstrate Europe's attempts to establish an alliance with Iran against the Ottoman Empire in political and economic competitive environment
