Abstract:

Terror fear is a major problem that has been revealed by terror attacks that have occurred worldwide in recent years and are largely targeted by civilians. This fear can be triggered by many elements. The main purpose of the study is to reveal the relationship between terror fear and space and to determine whether fear is concentrated in certain places. The theoretical framework of the study is based on the theories of irregularity, social control and subcultural diversity from theory of urban organizational inequality, which deals with fear of crime in the context of the physical and social characteristics of the space. The World Risk Society Theory is another theoretical context used in the framework of research. The research data is based on the results of 400 surveys and 20 interviews conducted in Ankara in 2018. Research finds that terror fear is more felt in certain places than others. It is also found that the theories of crime fear, such as irregularity and social control theories, cannot explain the fear of terror, and the theory of subcultural diversity is relatively explicit about the spatial concentration of fear. The research emphasizes literature in terms of the spatial intensity of terror fear in Turkey and the factors that trigger it.
