Abstract:

The study aims to evaluate hybrid management in academia with qualitative methods in the context of academicianship and management. Fifteen academicians in various managerial positions and selected by purposive sampling method were interviewed. In the interviews, the data collected through structured questionnaire forms were used in qualitative analysis, and theme and codes were created through the relevant qualitative analysis program. Academicians with a long period of administrative duty and different managerial positions expressed more opinions about hybrid management. The category created for hybrid management are academicianship and management. Sub-codes created with hybrid management are as follows: limitations of academe, contribution to personal development, responsibility, and intensive tempo, constantly up-to-date, difficulties in human relations, impact on private life, extra workload, and contribution to academic functioning, financial advantage, and contribution to potential efficiency. In conclusion, management limits academe as it brings with it too much responsibility and intensive tempo. It is considered that subjecting the academicians, who are hybrid managers, to training and rotation on management and effective communication at regular intervals will reduce the problems they are exposed to due to being in management.
