Abstract:

The Young Ottomans Association is a political movement that has placed the idea of nation, if not national sovereignty, in Turkish thought. This movement, which eventually reached the proclamation of the constitutional monarchy, was a prelude to the establishment of the new Turkish state to be established after the Ottoman Empire, based on the principle of national sovereignty. In this study, after mentioning the short story of the Young Ottomans Society, some of the ideas of Mustafa Fazıl Pasha, Namık Kemal, Ziya Pasha and Ali Suavi, who are the important ideologists of the Society, which will open the door to the national sovereignty administration to be established in the future, are mentioned. Namık Kemal's ideas on behalf of the nation and national sovereignty in the process of demanding constitutionalism, which started with the letter of Mustafa Fazıl Pasha to Sultan Abdulaziz; The statements of Ziya Pasha on the establishment of the national assembly and the articles written by Ali Suavi on the concepts of secularism, Turkism and democracy formed the body of the study. Finally, the study was completed by evaluating how important the First Young Turk Movement (Young/New Ottomans) played in ensuring the national sovereignty administration to be established in Turkey in 1920.
