Süt hısımlığı İslam Hukuku’nda ciddi bir yere sahip olup üzerinde çeşitli tartışmalar ve ihtilaflar bulunmaktadır. Bu tartışmalar zaman zaman süt hısımlığının oluşması için yaş sınırı konusunda olurken bazen de emme miktarı gibi konularda olmuştur. Süt hısımlığının meydana gelmesi için emzirmenin bir kez olması gerektiğini bildiren rivayetler olduğu gibi beş kez olması gerektiğini bildiren rivayetler de bulunmaktadır. Süt hısımlığı meselesi nikahın haram olması gibi ciddi bir sonuca temas ettiğinden ötürü, çelişkili gibi görünen rivayetlerin analiz edilmesi ve mezheplerin vermiş oldukları farklı hükümlerin değerlendirilmesi büyük bir önem taşımaktadır. Bu hususta Fıkhi mezheplerin birbirlerinden farklı hüküm vermelerinin sebebi benimsemiş oldukları usul-i fıkıh metotlarının ve istinbatta bulundukları hadislerin farklılığıdır. Bu çalışmada öncelikle İslam Aile Hukuku’na göre süt hısımlığı konusu genel hatlarıyla işlenmiş, ardından mezkûr rivayetlerden beş kez emme hadisi göz önünde bulundurulmuş, senet ve metin tahlili yapılmış ve onunla amel edilip edilmeme durumlarından söz edilmiştir.
