600 yıl boyunca varlığını sürdüren bir devletin son dönemlerinde düşünürlerin ve devlet adamlarının devlet anlayışında köklü değişimler yaşanmıştır. Devletin görevleri ve yönetim şekli hakkında çok farklı görüşler ortaya atılmıştır. Osmanlı’nın son dönemlerinde ve Cumhuriyetin kuruluş yıllarında yaşamış olan Mehmet İzzet Bey bu konulara dair görüşler ortaya koymuştur. İzzet Bey’in fikirlerinin anlaşılması için hayatı, tahsili ve metodu üzerinde de durulmuştur. Mehmet İzzet Bey eleştirel, sorgulayıcı, akademik ve fikir-odaklı bir metot benimsemektedir. Siyaset ile arasında mesafe olmasından ve derin felsefi fikir yapısından ötürü kriz dönemlerinde çare arayışı içinde olan Türk düşüncesi tarafından unutulmuştur.
During the last years of a state that has survived for 600 years, there have been radical changes in the state understanding of thinkers and statesmen. Many different opinions have been put forward about the duties and government style of the state. Mr. Mehmet Izzet, who lived in the last period of the Ottoman Empire and the founding years of the Republic, has put forward opinions on these issues. To understand Mr. Izzet's ideas, his life, education and method were also emphasized. He adopts a critical, questioning, academic and idea-oriented method. Due to his distance from politics and his deep philosophical frame of mind, he has been forgotten by the Turkish thought, which is seeking a practical solution during times of crisis.
