Abstract:

The fact that the newspapers were transformed in line with internet technology and integrated into the new media environment brought the change in news and journalism both in content and the form. Journalism online enabled journalism to take advantage of the features of new media such as digitization, hypertextuality, interactivity, propagation, multimedia and virtuality. However, most of the online newspapers are making use of these features obtained by means of new media to make more money. Many different techniques are used in order to increase visitor traffic and session duration in online newspapers both in Turkey and other countries which in turn reduces the confidence and interest in news and the reporter. In the study from this point of view, it is aimed to bring out how online newspapers manipulate the news and the reader using techniques such as gallery and video journalism, search engine journalism and clickbait journalism and how these techniques are used.
