Amerika Birleşik Devletleri Başkanı Lyndon Baines Johnson, Kıbrıs’ta yaşanan sorunlar üzerine Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Başbakanı İsmet İnönü’ye bir mesaj göndermiştir. Tarihe “Johnson Mektubu” olarak geçen ve Türkiye-ABD ilişkisinde bir dönüm noktası olan bu mektup, Türkiye’nin müttefiki hakkında güven sarsıntısı yaşamasına neden olmuştur. 1964 yılında gönderilen bu mesaj gazetelerde 1966 yılında yayımlanmıştır. Johnson Mektubu ve bu mektubun ardından yaşanan olaylarla ilgili haberlerin farklı gazetelerdeki sunum biçimlerini ortaya koymayı amaçlayan bu çalışmada, Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet ve Tercüman gazetesindeki haberler nitel içerik çözümlemesi yöntemi kullanılarak 3 dönemde incelenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre ilk iki dönemde gazetelerin haberleri sunumlarının birbirine benzediği ve ABD’ye karşı “hayal kırıklığı” ve “sitem” kavramlarıyla açıklanabilecek bir sunum yapıldığı görülmektedir. Üçüncü dönemde ise gazetelerin sunumları arasında bir farklılaşmanın olduğu saptanmıştır.
U.S. President Lyndon Baines Johnson has sent a message to the Turkish Prime Minister Ismet Inönü on the problems in Cyprus. This letter, which has passed to history as "Johnson's Letter" and is a turning point in the relations between Turkey and the US, has led to a trust shock in Turkey's allies. This message was published in the newspapers in 1966. In this study, which aims to reveal the forms of presentation in different newspapers of the Johnson Letter and the events that occur after this letter, the newspapers in the Republic, Hürriyet and Translator newspaper have been studied in 3 periods using the method of quality content analysis. According to the results obtained, in the first two periods the news presentations of the newspapers were similar and a presentation was made that could be explained against the United States with the concepts of "disappointment" and "sitem". In the third period, there was a distinction between the presentations of the newspapers.
