Abstract:

SOME OBSERVATION5 ON THE BIOLOGY AND DAMAGES OY Aceria chondrillae (Can.) (Acarina.Eriophyoidea) ON THE SKELETON WEED, Chondrillajuncea L. SUMMARY Some observaüons were made on the biology and injuries of Aceria chondrillae (Can.) on the skeleton weed, Chondrilla juncea L. from May to the end of October during 1987-88 in Erzurum Province, Turkey. The eriophyid gali mite, A.chondrillae induces the vegetative andflower buds of C.juncea to form leafy galls in which the full life-cycle iscompleted, causing studing of the plant and reducing seeding. These mites ovenvintered in rosettes of C.juncea and they crawled on the buds through the shoot of the plant. Gali formation appeared n 7-11 August firstly. The mites began to go down to the rosettes of the plant at the beginning ofSeptember. The plants infested with the galls w ere not yvidespread. Development and spreadcf the mite colonies might be limited with some climatic conditions.
