Bireysel ve toplumsal iletişim biçimlerini derinden etkileyen sosyal medya, her türlü insan ilişki ve faaliyeti içerisinde kendine geniş bir alan açmayı başarmış görünmektedir. Sosyal medya platformları bilimsel anlamda birçok çalışmaya konu olmakta ve çeşitli disiplinlerce anlaşılmaya çalışılmaktadır. Bu anlamda sosyal medyayı merkeze alan çalışma alanlarından biri de siyasal iletişim çalışmalarıdır. İlgili literatür değerlendirildiğinde yapılan çalışmaların daha çok sosyal medyanın birey dışındaki siyasal aday, parti ve liderler bağlamında kullanımının ele alındığı ancak bireyin siyasal amaçlı sosyal medya kullanımının çok fazla irdelenmediği görülmektedir. Bu noktadan hareketle bu çalışma bireysel anlamda sosyal medyanın bir siyasal ifade alanı olarak kullanımını ele almaktadır. Bu amaçla çalışmada siyasal amaçlı sosyal medya kullanımının siyasal etkinlik ve siyasal ilgi tutumları ile siyasal katılım üzerindeki etkisi incelenmiştir. Sonuçlar siyasal amaçlı sosyal medya kullanımının, siyasal etkinlik, siyasal ilgi ve siyasal katılım düzeyleri üzerinde anlamlı etkileri olduğunu göstermektedir
Social media, which profoundly affects the forms of individual and social communication, seems to have managed to open a wide sphere to itself in all kinds of human relationships and activities. Social media platforms are the subject of many studies in the scientific sense and are attempted to be understood through various disciplines. In this sense, one of the fields of work that focuses on social media is political communication. The study, when evaluated the relevant literature, is more discussed on the use of social media in the context of political candidates, parties and leaders other than the individual, but the use of social media for political purposes is not much considered. From this point of view, this study deals with the use of social media as a political expression field in the individual sense. For this purpose, the study has studied the impact of the use of social media for political purposes on political activity and political interest attitudes and political participation. The results show that the use of social media for political purposes has a significant impact on the levels of political activity, political interest and political participation.

From this point of view, this study deals with the use of social media as an area of political expression in an individual sense. In the study, the effect of the use of social media for political purposes on the political efficacy, attitudes of political interest and political participation were examined. The results showed that the use of social media for political purposes had significant effects on the levels of political efficacy, political interest and political participation
