Enerji, üretimin ve dolayısıyla ekonomik büyümenin temel girdilerinden birini oluşturmaktadır. Özellikle sanayi devriminden sonra teknolojinin gelişmesi, üretimin artması, nüfus artışı, şehirleşme ve yaşam biçiminin değişmesi enerjiye olan talebi arttırmıştır. Enerji, teknolojik ilerlemelerle birlikte gündelik yaşamın en temel gereksinimlerinden biri haline gelmiştir. Bu denli yoğun bir kullanım alanı olan enerjinin kendi üretiminden başlayarak tüketimi ve sonrasında oluşacak karbondioksit emisyonu da son yıllarda gündemde olan önemli bir değişken haline gelmiştir. Ekonomik büyümeyi pozitif etkileyen değişkenlerden biri olarak literatürde yer alan enerji tüketimi, dünya ekonomisinde ekonomik, sosyal ve çevresel alanlarda önemli etkiler oluşturabilecek potansiyele sahiptir. Karbondioksit emisyonunun ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisinin ise tartışmalı olduğu görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada MINT ülkeleri örneğinde enerji tüketimi, karbondioksit emisyonu ve ekonomik büyüme ilişkisinin panel ekonometrik analizi yapılmaktadır. Elde edilen tahminler, söz konusu değişkenler arasında uzun dönemli bir ilişkinin olduğunu gösterirken, panel genelinde enerji tüketiminin ekonomik büyümeyi pozitif etkilediği, karbondioksit emisyonu parametresinin de istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olmadığını göstermektedir.
Energy constitutes one of the basic inputs of production and therefore economic growth. Especially after the industrial revolution, the development of technology, increase in production, population growth, urbanization and change in life style have increased the demand for energy. Energy has become one of the most basic requirements of daily life with technological advances. Starting from its own production, consumption of energy, which is such an intensive usage area, and the carbon dioxide emission that will occur after it has also become an important variable on the agenda in recent years. Energy consumption, which is included in the literature as one of the variables that positively affect economic growth, has the potential to create significant effects in the world economy in economic, social and environmental areas. It is seen that the effect of carbon dioxide emissions on economic growth is controversial. In this study, panel econometric analysis of the relationship between energy consumption, carbon dioxide emissions and economic growth is performed in the example of MINT countries. The estimations obtained show that there is a long-term relationship between these variables, while energy consumption positively affects economic growth throughout the panel, and the carbon dioxide emission parameter is not statistically significant.
