Abstract:

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the parental attachment status and sexual health knowledge and attitudes of disabled university students. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and cross- sectional study was applied to 100 disabled university students between September 2020 and 2021. The data of the research were collected by using ‘The Parental Bonding Instrument’, 'Sexual Health Information and Attitude Inventory' and the 'Individual Identification Form'. In the analysis, Independent Sample t test, Mann Whitney U test and Spearman correlation analysis were used. Results: The students’ 64% are women, 55% are between the ages of 21-25, 69% are health science students, 86% are physically disabled. Their 39% received sexual health training. More than half of them are positively attached to their mothers and fathers. There was a significant positive relationship between attachment to parents and mother dimension and attitude towards gender roles scale. A positive relationship was found between the parental attachment and the father dimension and the attitude towards sexual health and personal hygiene scale, and a negative relationship was found with the attitude towards sexuality scale (p<0.05). Their 84% condemn talking about sexuality, 67% see sexuality as something to be ashamed of. Conclusion: It has been observed that the attachment status of disabled university students to their parents affects their sexual health and knowledge attitudes, no study has been found in the literature on this subject.
