Communication has been achieved by humanity utilizing various means from the creation till today. In every era of history, different regions were touched by correspondences enabled by communication, and faraway places were made closer. Therefore, the developments in communication brought along institutionalization. Hence, the Čāpār Institution (postal service) which constitutes our subject arose from this concept and the Qajar Dynasty which reigned in Persian geography between 1795 and 1925 used this institution for all its correspondences. The institution had the brightest period during Mīrzā Taghī Khān Amīr Kabīr (1848-1851), who was the grand vizier of Nāser-al-Dīn Shāh; during this period, the existed čāpār roads in Persian region were assigned and the names of čāpār houses established at certain intervals on these roads were recorded. In this article, which aims to give a detailed presentation of this highly important institution, the menzil defter dated 1267/1850 and prepared by the order of Mīrzā Taghī Khān Amīr Kabīr is introduced. Also, the information regarding Čāpār institution and the roads on which this institution had provided service is given.
