Objective: This study was carried out to establish the depression frequency and related factors among students at Gaziantep Hasan Kalyoncu University. Method: It is a descriptive research. This research was carried out on 235 students studying at Hasan Kalyoncu University between 4 February and 31 May 2013. A survey form including two parts with the Beck Depression Inventory for Primary Care (BDI-PC) with socio-demographic features was administered to the students. Findings: 54.0% of the students participating in the research were female and 46.0% were male. Mean age was 20.4±1.5 years. Body Mass Index was within normal range in 68.5% of the subjects. Mean score for Beck Depression Inventory for Primary Care (BDI-PC) was 3.5±3.2 with 38.3% (n=90) had a score ≥4. Mean score of the Beck Depression Inventory for Primary Care (BDI-PC) among the students with low economic conditions, attending to the department without their own demand, with low success, dieting and not satisfied with their weight and height was significantly higher than the contrast groups (p<0,05). Conclusion: 38.3% of the students was observed as they had depression symptoms. To establish consultancy service and to give trainings to potentiate their self-confidence are among our suggestions.
