Abstract:

The issue of health, which has remained out of politics as an individual part of the physiological and biological basic existence area, has been approached as a problem in a political, economic and socio-psychological field in terms of Focault. Thus, “biopolitics” as a new concept that can significantly affect social awareness and socialization processes has been shaped at least at the level of critical thinking.The fact that the perception of body and health is an important social phenomenon has revealed the need to deal with the subject on a theoretical basis. In the study, the general arguments in Foucault's biopolitics approach are presented in a systematic perspective. How the power-medicine relationship, which emerged in the historical process, is produced in the context of medicalization in today's social structure is discussed within the framework of Foucault's approach. This study has been prepared on the basis of the critical discourse analysis method within the framework of descriptive analysis and qualitative research using the primary sources written by Michel Foucault himself and the secondary sources written on it. In this study, it is aimed to adapt Foucault's biopolitics approach and medicalization concepts to the ongoing medicine-policy-health relations in daily life. The analysis carried out on both the conceptual foundations of Foucault's biopolitics approach has revealed to us that the processes of managing the domination policies of today's power structures and the perception of body and health carry the elements indicated by Foucult's critical approach. Considering the developments in terms of the importance of public consciousness and vital awareness, the fact that perception management drags the individual into passive and unhealthy processes has manifested itself at the meeting point of current developments and theoretical propositions.
