Abstract:

Chinghiz Aitmatov is one of the important writers of Kirghiz literature. In his works, he brought a quality, which was national and went beyond his era, to his work, by giving place to historical and cultural tracks of geography where he lived. Tales, folk stories and legends constitute the essence of his works. While the writer was building fiction (construct), he placed these motives belonging to folk literature into his work masterly. Area of investigation of this article will be the novel of White Ship by Chinghiz Aitmatov. We addressed motives belonging to folk literature in the novel of White Ship one by one. We examined the place of these motives in the novel in tradition of folk literature, and in a detailed way explained the contribution that these motives made to come the novel into existence, by showing examples. In this study, we examined the effects of motives, which were used in the tradition of folk literature, on fiction (construct) of Aitmatov's works.
