Abstract:

The relationship between poverty and economic growth is one of the important topics of discussion in economics. Economic growth provides an increase in the level of welfare. Therefore, the welfare level of the poor also increases. Economic growth is expressed as pro-poor growth as it reduces poverty. Pro-poor growth is alleviating poverty and seeing this increase in Gross Domestic Product. This means that the poor benefit more from economic growth than the rich. The basis of pro-poor growth is based on the inadequacy of economic growth in eliminating poverty. From this point of view, distribution in pro-poor growth, inequality of income distribution and redistribution of income come to the fore. In particular, the redistribution of income and its equal reflection on society in terms of economic growth are of great importance. In this study, the effects of economic growth on poverty and the extent to which the poor benefit from economic growth and should benefit are emphasized. In terms of the efficiency of economic growth, it has been emphasized how the redistribution of income should be. Pro-poor growth has been associated with income inequality. The main purpose of this study is to develop recommendations for policy makers to minimize the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the vulnerable population. Findings, it has been observed that public expenditures have increased social protection expenditures for various demographic groups and the poor since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, and it is recommended that these supports gain sustainability without being limited to the pandemic.
