Abstract:

ʿUmar, Since he was one of the closest friends of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), he also had a good understanding of the spirit of making laws and became one of the leading companions on fiqh issues. The ability of ʿUmar’s on the fiqh subjects, who was noticed while the Prophet (pbuh)  was alive, made him to the head of the judicial institution during the time of Abȗ Bakr. ʿUmar’s fiqh ability and acquis were effective in overcoming the problems he faced after he had became the caliph. ʿUmar's practices during his caliphate were understood in different ways in the following periods and disputes occurred on these issues. One of these issues on which different views are formed is about the provision of the tarawih prayer with the congregation. Thus, there are two different views on this issue. One is the school of Ahl-al Sunnah’s and the other are completely different assessments of the Shia school regarding tarawih prayer. Here, two different opinions are discussed in this article. In addition, the proofs that the Ahl al-Sunnah and Shia are based on the issue of performing the tarawih prayer with the congregation were examined. In this regard, the objections of the Ahl al-Sunnah scholars towards the discourses of Shia were discussed. On the other hand, in terms of testing the evidence of Shia, the point of view of performing the tarawih prayer of ʿAlī with the congregation, and moreover, how he evaluated the practice of ʿUmar in this regard is included in the scope of this issue. In this sense, the rumor which the Shia scholars regarded the tarawih prayer that they attributed to ʿAlī , as a bid’ah and tried to prevent it was also examined. Here, as a result, it was determined that the viewpoint of Shia against ʿUmar was reflected both in their attitudes about the tarawih prayer with the congregation  and in the sectarian differences between the Ahl al-Sunnah and Shia. Throughout history, the attitudes towards performing the tarawih prayer with the congregation due to this attitude of Shia were also examined, and how the Shiite rulers were evaluated in the face of the Ahl-al Sunnah because of their attitude towards tarawih prayer was also handled.
