Abstract:

In this study, the Turkish written press has studied newspapers and corner writings in order to understand how archaeological news is popularized, taking into account which topics are presented in the framework of the Göbekli Tepe news. The method of the study is based on the thematic text analysis. In the framework of the study, the PRNET database has been scanned in relation to Göbekli Tepe and the scan results have shown that the news has been concentrated between the years 2010-2015. The news from the broad press agencies and the different world views are believed to have been read in the Hürriyet, Republic, BirGün and Sabah newspapers. The results of these readings were found in 149 news and corner writings. In the study, the news that contains archaeological data, information, theory or descriptions about the Göbekli Mountains was determined how the Göbekli Mountains were represented by the media, which topics accompanied this presentation and which meanings were loaded. As a result, it has been seen that Göbeklitepe, located in a position called the "City of Citizenship", began to appear in the international press after it came to the agenda. However, in the past few years, the news has been found to be relatively insufficient in terms of both quantity and quality. In other words, a significant part of the content has not been referred to scientific knowledge and discussions about the Göbekli Mount, the subject has been addressed in a superficial form or has been established as a sensational news.
