Klasik Türk şiirinin olgunluk dönemlerinden XVII. yüzyılda önemli şairler yetişmiştir. Sabrî bu yüzyılın sanatçılarındandır. Kaynaklar onun edebî kişiliğini genellikle Nef‘î ile birlikte değerlendirir. O, kaside alanında Nef‘î’ye yakındır, gazelde ise Şeyhülislâm Yahyâ tarzını devam ettirir. Klasik Türk Edebiyatı şairleri aşk ve aşkın hâllerini ayrıntılı bir şekilde işlerler. Bu çalışmada, Sabrî’nin gazellerinde aşk konusunu işleyiş şekli araştırılmış, aşkın farklı boyutlarla ele alındığı beyitler tespit edilerek şairin söylemi değerlendirilmiştir. Beşerî ve ilahî boyutlarıyla aşk, âşıkın psikolojisi ve akıl-aşk çatışması gibi konuların nasıl ifade edildiği incelenerek şairin şiir geleneği içindeki yeri tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır.
