Abstract:

Ege Sorunu, Türkiye ile Yunanistan ilişkilerinde önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Ege Denizi’ndeki adaların çokluğu ve sınırların belirlenmemesi birçok kez iki ülkeyi savaşın eşiğine getirmiştir. Soğuk Savaş’ın hemen başından günümüze değin varlığını sürdüren Ege Sorunu, ABD’nin bölgesel çıkarlarını da etkilemiştir. Soğuk Savaş yıllarında Batı Blokunda yer alan iki ülke arasında yaşanacak bir sıcak çatışma ABD’nin bölgedeki çıkarlarını olumsuz olarak etkileyeceğinden ABD Merkezi İstihbarat Teşkilatı CIA, Ege Denizi’nde yaşanan gelişmeleri yakından takip etmiştir. Bu süreçte CIA, ABD’nin diğer istihbarat teşkilatlarıyla ortak hareket ederek ABD’nin gelişmeler karşısında tavrını şekillendirmeye çalışmıştır. Bu nedenle CIA Arşivi, Ege Sorunu hakkında zengin bir içerik barındırmaktadır. Çalışmada, Soğuk Savaş yıllarında adaların genel durumu üzerinde durulurken yaşanan gelişmeler CIA arşiv belgeleri ışığında ele alınmaktadır. Belgelerde o dönem yaşanan gelişmelerin perde arkası, bulgu ve belgeler perspektifinde elde edilen bilgiler ortaya konulmaktadır.

Abstract:

It has a significant role in the relations between Turkey and Greece. The number of islands in the Egean Sea and the lack of limits have many times brought the two countries to the threshold of war. The Cold War issue, which continued to exist from the beginning to the present day, has also affected the U.S. regional interests. As a hot conflict between the two countries in the West Bloc during the Cold War years will negatively affect the interests of the United States in the region, the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has closely tracked the developments in the Egean Sea. In this process, the CIA has been working in partnership with other U.S. intelligence agencies to try to shape its attitude towards the U.S. developments. That’s why the CIA Archive contains rich content on the Ege Problem. The study focuses on the general state of the islands during the Cold War years and the developments are discussed in the light of the CIA archive documents. The documents show the background of the developments that occur in that period, the findings and the documents obtained in the perspective.

The Aegean Dispute has an important place in relations between Turkey and Greece. The large number of islands in the Aegean Sea and the lack of borders brought the two countries to the brink of war many times. The Aegean Dispute, which continued to exist from the very beginning of the Cold War to the present, has also affected the USA's regional interests. The Central Intelligence Service CIA has closely followed the developments in the Aegean Sea, as a hot conflict between the two countries in the Western Block during the Cold War years will negatively affect the interests of the USA in the region. In this process, CIA tried to shape the attitude of the USA in the face of developments by acting in partnership with other intelligence agencies of the USA. Therefore, the CIA Archive contains a rich content about the Aegean Dispute. In the study, while focusing on the general condition of the islands during the Cold War, the developments are discussed in the light of CIA archive documents. In the documents, behind the scenes of the developments that occurred at that time, and the information obtained in the perspective of findings and documents are presented.
