Although the European Convention on Human Rights does not regulate the rights of refugees directly, the Convention is one of the most important legal instruments to protect refugees’ rights. While the 1951 Refugee Convention requires realization of certain conditions for the definition of the refugee and non-refoulement principle, the European Convention on Human Rights does not have any requirements for both issues. Being lack of those requirements, the European Convention on Human Rights provides wider implementation area than the 1951 Refugee Convention.
