Bu çalışmada, 2013-2014 öğretim yılından itibaren kademeli bir şekilde yürürlüğe giren ortaokul matematik dersi beşinci sınıf öğretim programının öğretmen görüşlerine göre matematiksel model ve modelleme açısından incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmaya Erzurum merkezde görev yapan 58 ortaokul matematik öğretmeni katılmıştır. Durum çalışması yönteminin kullanıldığı araştırmada matematiksel modelleme görüş formu veri toplama aracı olarak kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde, araştırma sorularının ortaya koyduğu temalara göre organize edilmesine ve görüşmede kullanılan sorular veya boyutlar dikkate alınarak sunulmasına imkân tanıması açısından betimsel analiz yaklaşımı kullanılmıştır. Matematik öğretmenleri matematik dersi öğretim programı konularının basitleştirildiğini ve kazanımlarının azaltıldığını belirtmişlerdir. Bunun yanında öğretmenler, modellemenin öğrencilerin matematiğe karşı tutumlarında, derse aktif olarak katılmalarında ve kavramsal öğrenmenin sağlanmasında olumlu etkisinin olduğunu vurgulamışlardır. Öğretmenlerin önemli bir bölümü, sayılar ve geometri öğrenme alanlarındaki bazı konularda matematiksel model ve modelleme açısından herhangi bir değişikliğin olmadığını belirtmişlerdir. Bazı öğretmenler ise programdaki değişikliklerin görsel temsil ve günlük yaşamla ilişkilendirme boyutlarında olduğunu belirtmişlerdir.
