Abstract:

This study was prepared for the purpose of revealing the animal universe of the standard Turkish and is claiming to identify all the animals names (zoonyms) in the animal universe of the general language user. In the study, leaving a problematic side of how to determine the limits of the vocabulary of the general language user, it has been found that the sources that best reflect the vocabulary of the language user - the position - are the general dictionaries of the language in which he is a member. According to this, the database of the study is the Turkish Dictionary printed by the Turkish Language Institution in 2011. However, the sample contains only the main subtitles / basic dictionaries in the database; the number of these dictionaries is 1.103. In the study, animals were not discussed in terms of the detailed designs made by zoologists, and more general and zoological scientists were evaluated by cleansing them from the important details. In the study, the data concerning the names of animals were criticized and allocated in terms of material to other studies; then the names of animals in the data were studied in terms of structure, word universe, source language and homogeneity.
