Abstract:

It is our national, spiritual, social, moral and cultural values that form the basic structure of our social life. Values education is the ability of individuals to learn their culture and beliefs, to be virtuous and to transfer them to their behavior. The individual who adopts and lives his social and cultural values must also be open to universal values. The values that are intended to be given to children as behaviors from an early age should be given implicitly in children's books, in the stories they read and listen to. For this purpose, the texts to be presented to children should include social and universal values and serve these issues. Values education that forms the basis of the curriculum aim to add universal and social values to children. In this study, it is aimed to examine the works of important Turkish authors in terms of the values contained in the Turkish Curriculum (MEB, 2019), Social Studies Course Curriculum (MEB, 2005) and Schwartz Values Classification Table. Accordingly, 22 books of our 5 authors who were selected without bias were examined. The study was structured by qualitative research method and the data was obtained by documentary scanning model. As a result of the study, it was determined that the works were mostly built on the values of ‘love’ and ‘sensitivity’, and that these values were followed by the values of ‘industriousness’ and ‘helpfulness’.
