Abstract:

The problem of poverty is one of the most important problems that countries try to solve through their economic and social policies. Poverty is a problem not only for underdeveloped and developing countries but also for developed countries as well. Examining the research and data, it is seen that the vast majority of poor population consists of women. Therefore, the term “women’s poverty” has been included into the poverty literature as a concept. Today, many practices and studies are carried out to fight women’s poverty, and micro-credit implementation is one of them. In this study, the impact of micro-credit implementation in the fight against poverty in Şanlıurfa and the satisfaction levels of women using micro-credits regarding micro-credit implementation are discussed. Within the scope of the research, a face-to-face interview was conducted with 145 women using micro-credit in Şanlıurfa. According to the results of the research, a positive change was found in the income of women using micro-credit. Women used an average of 3,475.86 TL (145 people) of micro-credit. Women using micro-credit increased their average monthly income from 4,694.77 TL (49 people) to 8,396.36 TL (132 people). The majority of the women participating in the research stated that the amount of credit they had received was sufficient; they could do the work they planned thanks to micro-credit; the work they did through micro-credits was income-generating and that they were economically relieved by making a positive contribution to their income.
