Bu çalışma, 1987-2018 dönemi için Güney Kore ve Türkiye’nin ülkesel verilerine dayanarak dış ticaret ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektedir. Güney Kore ve Türkiye’nin birlikte araştırılmasının tercih edilme nedeni, her iki ülkenin de eş zamanlı olarak benzer dış ticaret politikalarını uygulamış olmalarıdır. Buna göre Güney Kore ve Türkiye’nin birlikte araştırılmasının, dış ticaretin ekonomik büyüme üzerine etkisi konusunda önemli bulgular sunacağı beklenmektedir. Bunun için çalışmada ekonomik büyüme, ihracat ve ithalat arasındaki ilişkileri ortaya koymak amacıyla, ARDL sınır testi yaklaşımıyla eşbütünleşme analizi ve Granger nedensellik testlerine başvurulmuştur. ARDL sınır testi yaklaşımıyla eşbütünleşme analizi sonuçları, Türkiye ve Güney Kore için incelenen dönem itibarıyla, ihracat ile ekonomik büyüme arasında uzun dönemli bir ilişkinin varlığına işaret etmekte ve ihracat artışının ekonomik büyümeye katkı sağladığını göstermektedir. Tespit edilen ilişkilerin yönünü belirlemek için gerçekleştirilen Granger nedensellik testi sonuçlarına göre ise Türkiye’de, ithalat ve ihracat arasında çift yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisi söz konusudur ve GSYİH’dan ihracata doğru tek yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisi tespit edilmiştir. Güney Kore’de ise ihracattan ithalata ve ihracattan GSYİH’ya doğru tek yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisi söz konusu iken ithalat ile GSYİH arasında çift yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisi tespit edilmiştir. Bu bağlamda Güney Kore ve Türkiye’de serbest dış ticaret politika uygulamalarının ekonomik büyümeyi artıracağı öngörülmektedir.
This study examines the relationship between foreign trade and economic growth on the basis of the national data of South Korea and Turkey for the period 1987-2018. The reason for the preference of the South Korea and Turkey’s joint research is that both countries have implemented similar foreign trade policies at the same time. According to this, the joint investigation of South Korea and Turkey is expected to provide significant findings on the impact of foreign trade on economic growth. For this purpose, in the study, in order to reveal the relationship between economic growth, exports and imports, the ARDL border test approach was applied to matching analysis and Granger causality tests. The results of the analysis of the matching with the ARDL border test approach, from the period examined for Turkey and South Korea, indicate the existence of a long-term relationship between exports and economic growth and indicate that the increase in exports has contributed to economic growth. According to the results of the Granger causality test conducted to determine the direction of the identified relationships, in Turkey, it is a bilateral causality relationship between import and export and a one-way causality relationship from GDP to export has been identified. In South Korea, there is a one-way causal relationship between imports and exports to GDP, while there is a two-way causal relationship between imports and GDP. In this context, free trade policies in South Korea and Turkey are expected to increase economic growth.
This study examines the relationship between foreign trade and economic growth in South Korea and Turkey on the basis of national data for the 1987-2018 period. Preferred to be investigated along with South Korea and Turkey is because both countries have implemented similar foreign trade policies simultaneously. According to this, investigation along the South Korea and Turkey together are expected to provide important evidence about the impact of foreign trade on economic growth. In order to reveal the relationships between economic growth, exports and imports, co-integration analysis with the ARDL bound test approach and Granger causality tests were used. The results of cointegration analysis with the ARDL bound test approach, in the said period, indicate between economic growth and exports the presence of a significant relationship in terms of statiscal in long term in Turkey and South Korea and the export increase suggests that contribute to economic growth. According to the results of Granger causality test performed to determine the direction of the detected relationships,in Turkey there is a bidirectional causality between exports and import and, a unidirectional causality relationship from GDP to exports has been identified. In South Korea, there is a one-way causality relationship from exports to imports and from exports to GDP, a bidirectional causality relationship has been detected between imports and GDP. In this context, the free trade policies is expected to improve economic growth in South Korea and Turkey.
