Abstract:

Purpose: Our study was aimed at comparing the effects of sevofluran and desfluran on the mother and newborn in the elective cesarean operations. Method: With the approval of the Ethics Board of our hospital, the planed 40 healthy pregnancies under general anesthesia was divided into two random groups after receiving informed approvals. In the treatment of anesthesia, the 50% nitric oxide and oxygen mixture was 3 % desfluran in Group D; 1% sevofluran in Group S was used. Systolic, diastolic, average blood pressure, heart rate and peripheral oxygen saturation were recorded at the beginning and peroperative 5 minutes intervals. At the newborn 1 and 5 minutes APGAR scores were assessed with the 2nd and 24 hour neurological adaptive capacity scores with amblycal cord blood gases. The mother's extubation and compilation periods and preoperative and postoperative 24-hour hemoglobin and hematocrit values were recorded. In Group D and Group S, blood pressure and heart rate changes were similar in the intraoperative period. Neonatal data were evaluated as similar in Group D and Group S. Exhibition and compilation times were significantly short in Group D compared to Group S. The preoperative and postoperative hemoglobin and hematocrit values of the groups were similar. The result: In our study, we found that the effects of desfluran and sevofluran in the concentrations we applied in the elective caesarean operations are similar to the effects of the mother and the newborn, and that the desfluran can be preferred more than sevofluran with early extraction and short merging time.
